“They crossed the street and doubled back, finding Kwan and Dawson seated outside at a Starbucks coffeehouse where they had a clear view of the front entrance.

Winger took a seat and looked to see what Dawson was drinking. “Starbucks in Shanghai; I had no idea.”

“Actually there are more than eighty Starbucks in Shanghai alone,” Kwan said.”

Hong Kong Downtown

This is a snapshot taken by the author, Bill Duncan, was also captured in downtown Hong Kong in 2002. While there were fewer Starbucks in China in those days, notice the KFC sign in the middle-left of the frame, with Colonel Sanders smiling down on the city.
