“About a mile from the border, the Ziranj City Center was comparatively clean and modern. While not advanced in terms of technology, the city benefited from a reasonably consistent flow of electricity and clean water. Axis had no compound in Ziranj, but arrangements had been made for Dawson and his team to stay for a few days at a local hotel. The International Hotel in Ziranj was adjacent to the city government building, housed many foreign business people, and had only been the victim of a car bomb on one occasion.”
I took this photo in February of 2011. It is probably the nicest facility in Ziranj, and provided me with the mental framework of reference for the description of the “International Hotel” in that city.
